Evan Jones, Cello

Evan A. Jones holds the D.M.A. in cello performance and the Ph.D. in music theory from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where he studied with Steven Doane, Pamela Frame, and Alan Harris. He also studied with Aldo Parisot during two summers at Banff, with János Starker during four summers at Orford, with Antonio Lysy at McGill University, and with Pierre Djokic and Shimon Walt at Dalhousie University, and participated in masterclasses with Anner Bylsma, Emma Ferrand, Bernard Greenhouse, Desmond Hoebig, Steven Isserlis, Richard Kapuscinski, Nathaniel Rosen, Fred Sherry, and Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi. On faculty at the Florida State University College of Music since 2001, he previously served as cello instructor at Colgate University and as Pamela Frame’s assistant at the Eastman School. Dr. Jones has given the world premieres of solo works by Clifton Callender, Robert Morris, and Ciro Scotto, the North American premieres of two works by Iannis Xenakis, and the New York City premieres of works by Dexter Morrill and Christopher Auerbach-Brown (in Merkin Hall and Weill Recital Hall, respectively). He has performed under the auspices of the Banff Centre for the Arts, Baroque Southeast, the College Music Society, Electronic Music Midwest, Music on the Lake, the Music Teachers National Association, Musique Royale, the Orford Arts Centre, the Scotia Festival of Music, the Society for Electroacoustic Music, the Spark Festival of Electronic Music and Arts, the Syracuse Society for New Music, and the Tallahassee Bach Parley, as well as on faculty recital programs at Florida State University. He previously appeared as principal cellist of the Binghamton Philharmonic, the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes, and the Montreal Chamber Players, and currently serves as assistant principal cellist in the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra. Recent recital and festival appearances have included Albany State University, DePauw University, East Carolina University, Longwood University, Northwest Vista College, UCLA, the University of Cincinnati, and UNCG, as well as at other venues throughout Florida and in Kansas, Minnesota, Texas, Virginia, Canada, Italy, and Spain.
